I ride this same bike, on the same kinds of roads, as this fellow. This is my worst fear when riding, even more so than hitting a car at an intersection. This guy could have been seriously injured and all alone on a country road, but luckily he escaped unharmed. Except for his bike, of course ;)

A raccoon came into the yard in the daytime, and we threw some organic corn chips on the lawn for him. A few minutes later the deer showed up, and the raccoon ran up a tree - for a few moments. Just as the raccoon was brave enough to head for the chips, the deer noticed the chips. The deer are used to grazing on the clover flowers and leaves in our lawn, and liked the uncommon chip bonanza. After the raccoon ate his chips, the deer decided they didn't want him anymore on what they consider the "deer's lawn."
