This is news coverage of my son's hyperbaric oxygen therapy used to help his cerebral palsy. Although numerous independent studies of HBOT have revealed tremendously positive results when used on patients suffering from CP, the FDA still has not approved the therapy for its use in patients with cerebral palsy. Without FDA approval, insurance wont cover a dime, forcing patients and their families to bear the burden of all costs. Its an absolute shame that this promising treatment cant be made available to everyone who desperately desires to receive it. This is my son's first treatment of hopefully many to come. We will continue to document his progress and his improvements with further treatments. July, 1998. A Canadian news broadcast. Cerebral-palsied twins Mathieux and Michel Nadeau get HBOT in the United Kingdom. Examined by their physician, Dr. Pierre Marois. Dr. Marois then initiated the 1999 McGill HBOT-for-cp pilot study and then attempted to produce a controlled study in 2000. The Canadian government removed Marois as Principal Investigator of the 2nd study, replaced by Jean Paul Collet, (i.e., "the Collet study") who employed the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine to produce a confused result. Marois authored two follow-up papers and provided in-person expert witness testimony in three USA MedicaidforHBOT cases. Mother Claudine re-married Tom Fox, who ironically believes HBOT must only be administered in ASME-PVHO approved chambers (see TomFoxIsAlsoADamnLiar dot com), which excludes Mathieux and Michel from receiving HBOT in the UK.

http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com I have been so totally impressed with my improvement after just a few treatments that I decided to purchase the same hyperbaric chamber for my home-based health practice! This chamber is absolutely HUGE! A parent may accompany their child into the chamber and both can comfortably receive a treatment simultaneously! I am prone to claustrophobia, but experienced absolutely none in this chamber. I can even reach my arms straight out in front of me while supine and can even sit up while in the chamber. Many other physicians successfully use this same chamber in their practice. This chamber is also FDA-approved for home use. You will appreciate your treatments in our warm and friendly home environment rather than a cold and impersonal medical center. Most non-hospitalized individuals can easily and effectively use this hyperbaric chamber. However, you should not use hyperbaric oxygen therapy if you have oxygen-dependent emphysema (COPD) since the extra oxygen can suppress your respiratory drive. In addition, you should not use the chamber if you currently have a pneumothorax or a history of spontaneous pneumothorax. Certain medications, such as doxorubicin, bleomycin, cis-platinum, disulfiram, and mafenide acetate, should not be used while you are receiving hyperbaric treatments. At this time, I recommend avoidance of hyperbaric therapy if you are pregnant since not enough research has been performed yet. We would need to be cautious if you have Eustachian tube dysfunction and have an upper respiratory infection with difficulty equalizing ear pressure. Nicotine causes constriction of blood flow and diminishes the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Therefore, you should discontinue the use of all nicotine products.

http://www.balancedhealthtoday.com In the journal Stroke, Dr. Richard Neubauer, a pioneer in the use of this therapy for treating various neurological diseases, reported outstanding results in a group of 122 stoke patients treated with HBOT. In one case, significant functional improvement was noted when Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy was used 14 years after the initial stroke. These studies by Dr. Richard Neubauer conclusively demonstrate the development of new blood vessels to the rim of tissue surrounding the area of the brain that had been damaged. These newly formed blood vessels resulting from the hyperbaric oxygen therapy can then bring fresh blood (oxygen) and nutrients to the damaged tissue. The tissue begins to repair itself and returns to normal or near-normal. These "resuscitated" neurons gradually reconnect to the rest of the brain. These revived neurons and their connections help to return the use of lost cerebral and bodily functions. Hyperbaric therapy does not resurrect dead brain tissue, but it can facilitate the functioning of those dormant, idling nerve cells that have suffered secondary damage by stroke due to diminished oxygen. Oftentimes, the brain area suffering secondary damage is a larger part of the brain than that which suffered the primary damage. This area of secondary damage to the brain (the ischemic penumbra) is the area that HBOT helps. Improvements have been achieved, gains have been made, even with patients who are more than a decade post-stroke. Note: TIA: Transient Ischemic Attack, is a "mini stroke", or "warning stroke" that often produces mild stroke-like symptoms but usually no lasting damage.
